The Hanging Gardens

It's a hot one in Atlanta this weekend, like it is up and down the east coast. That means that we have to do a lot of watering of the plants to keep them from drying up. But this year it seems to be worth it.
I built a window box for the backside of the porch behind the Egg. We've had boxes on the side railing for a number of years, but I wanted to add some more color to the deck so I built a big box, big enough for a lot of hanging plants and some herbs. It's taken off nicely, very nicely.
For the main plant I used white Million Bells. Million Bells is a fairly new plant, very similar in appearance to the petunia, but about 1/4 the bloom size. The nice thing about it, like the Purple Wave petunia, it that it blooms all summer, takes very little maintenance and grows like a weed. I added some red geraniums, a couple of Purple Wave petunias, the herbs and kept watering and fertilizing it. In about a month and half it's taken off and looks great now, reaching 2-3 feet below the box. But boy does it take the water! Oh well, a small price to pay for such a great looking box.
